Everybody expected Newcastle to thrash the non league club, however everything did not go according to plan for Newcastle. Newcastle dominated the first half, however they squandered a number of different chances, Malcolm Macdonald most notably missed two open goals. As the second half progressed, the heroics of the Hereford goal keeper, Fred Potter, kept the match all square. With only ten minutes remaining, Malcolm Macdonald finally put Newcastle ahead through an opening created by Viv Busby. With only three minutes left, Ronnie Radford equalized for the part timers and sent the match into extra time. Mid way through extra time, the unthinkable occurred, Ricky George scored a famous goal for Hereford and that settled the encounter. Hereford ran out 2-1 winners in this FA Cup clash. |
