Liverpool 3-0 Newcastle
FA Cup Final
4th May 1974

This was the second occasion that Liverpool had reached the FA Cup final under the guidance of Bill Shankly. After an exciting first half, it was six minutes into the second period when Kevin Keegan created an opportunity for Alec Lindsay to smash the ball into the net from the left; however it did not count for being offside. Fifteen minutes into the second half, a diagonal centre from Tommy Smith across the edge of the box crossed behind Brian Hall, the ball arrived to Keegan who brought the ball up for a volley and smashed the ball into the left corner of the net. With twenty minutes left, Newcastle forced their single corner of the match. Three minutes later, Heighway cut in from the left to run up John Toshack’s back header and hit the ball into the gaping goal. With only 2 minutes remaining, Liverpool selfishly knocked the ball around the Wembley turf, delivering Tommy Smith down the wing to pass for Keegan to score an incredible team goal.
