Malcolm Macdonald

Macdonald started his career playing for Fulham during the 1968-69 season, making an immediate impact at the club. He soon moved on to sign for Luton Town in 1969, instantly becoming prolific in front of goal, in total he netted 49 goals in 88 matches for Luton, averaging three goals in every five matches played. Newcastle signed the player for £180,000 in the summer of 1971 (worth a lot of money at the time) and the player repaid the club back immediately. He was Newcastle’s top goal scorer for five consecutive seasons. He got off to a great start as he scored a hat trick in his debut against Liverpool. MacDonald left Newcastle in 1976 for Arsenal for a third of a million pounds. Unfortunately his career was cut short due to obtaining an injury at the start of the 1978-79 season.
