This proved to be a memorable encounter as Newcastle made a fine finish to their fine debut season in the premiership. Newcastle took an early lead through Paul Bracewell and were in total control. The Geordies were cruising and their star studded strike force, Beardsley – Cole were on fire. Peter Beardsley was prolific in front of goal, scoring two further goals making it 3-0. Andy Cole added Newcastle’s forth goal and they were eyeing up their largest victory of the campaign. The rout was complete as Scott Sellers scored their fifth, a fine 5-1 victory for Newcastle.
