Newcastle 5-0 Man UTD

This proved to be a famous day in Newcastle football history as they met the reigning champions, Manchester United at St James Park, the Geordies were hoping to avoid defeat, however instead Manchester United suffered their largest ever Premiership defeat, since the league started in 1992-93. Newcastle had all the early play and took the lead with a fine goal scored by Gavin Peacock. Shearer came close to doubling the lead minutes later however David Ginola scored their second just before the first half interval and Newcastle were cruising. The Ferdinand – Shearer partnership worked magically well in the second half as Ferdinand put Newcastle 3-0 up and only minutes later Shearer confirmed the rout making the score line 4-0. Newcastle dominated all the late play and the goal of the season came about with minutes remaining as Phillip Albert scored a wonder goal lobbing the ball past the United keeper, Peter Schmeichel.

Newcastle 3-2 Barcelona

Newcastle met the mighty Barcelona in the champion’s league group stages and this proved to be a mouth watering footie clash. Asprilla was outstanding in the opening minutes and he was brought down mid way through the first half in the penalty box, which resulted in an awarded penalty. He coolly converted the spot kick and they were one up. Only few minutes later, Kith Gillespie made some great play and crossed the ball for Asprilla to make it 2-0 to the Geordies. With five minutes of the first half remaining, Newcastle cruised to a 3-0 lead, once again Asprilla scored to complete his hat trick as he scored another header. Barcelona put on an onslaught in the second half, and with only a quarter of an hour remaining, Luis Enrique scored to make the score line 3-1. The Spaniards awarded themselves with a life line with two minutes remaining as Luis Figo scored, however Newcastle won the tie 3-2.
