David Ginola
Ginola spent two years playing for Newcastle, becoming a fans favorite instantly before moving to Spurs in 1997, where he played some of the finest premiership football ever seen. His most successful premiership season was certainly the 1998-99 campaign as his delightful performances earned him the accolade of the PFA Player of the year award. He was a popular figure at Tottenham, in total scoring 22 goals in his 127 appearances for Spurs.
Les Ferdinand
Ferdinand enjoyed a loan spell in Turkey playing for Besiktas prior moving to QPR in 1989. It took him two seasons to settle in to the QPR squad and became a permanent fixture for Rangers in 1991. He was prolific in front of goal for QPR scoring a staggering 90 goals in his 180 appearances, which in turn earned him a call up to the England team. In 1995 he moved to Newcastle for a staggering £6 million and his partnership up front with Shearer instantly blossomed. In total he made 72 league appearances for the club scoring 45 goals, one of the best games to goal rations the premiership has ever witnessed. In 1997 he moved to Spurs, a club he spent three years with before finishing his career playing for Leicester city, Bolton and then reading.
Philippe Albert
Albert moved to Newcastle United after his incredible display for the Belgium national team after the 1994 World cup finals. He left Anderlecht for Newcastle in the summer of 1994 and became an instant success at the club. He was well known for his flair and skill and soon became a fans favourite. His most memorable moment had to be when he scored a delightful lob over Peter Schmeichel’s head in a 5-0 victory over Manchester united, one of the best ever goals scored in the history of English football. He helped Newcastle reach second position at the end of the 1995-96 season.
Faustino Asprilla
Asprilla was one of Colombia’s finest players during the 1990’s however he is remembered by many for his off field antics. In the summer of 1995, Asprilla moved to Newcastle for a fee believed to be worth around £6.7 million and he certainly did not disappoint. He helped carry Newcastle to second position in the premiership at the end of the 1995-96 season. He was arguably the most skilful player in the premiership during his three year spell at the club. His most memorable moment with Newcastle would have to be regarded when scoring a brilliant first half hat trick against Barcelona in a champions league encounter. Asprilla has also played for Parma and Palmeiras of the Italian football league. |
