Newcastle 8-0 Sheffield Wednesday
Date Played – 19th September 1999

Bobby Robson’s first home match in charge of Newcastle proved to be a glorious affair for Newcastle. It only took five minutes for Aaron Hughes to open the scoring for the Geordies. The following fifteen minutes, however, proved to be memorable, Shearer scored three goals in the space of twelve minutes to complete a remarkable hat trick and to make the score line 4-0, with Newcastle cruising and the Wednesday keeper, Kevin Pressman, looking on. The first half continued at this frantic pace and further goals in the first 45 minutes by Kieron Dyer and Gary Speed made it 6-0 at half time. The second half continued at the same pace and Shearer was on hand twice again. Shearer registered another 2 goals during the second half as he finished off the match scoring a premiership record breaking 5 goals and Newcastle won the tie 8-0.
